CANDIDATE SPEECHES

At the October ZOOM General Membership Meeting, the candidates running for the position of Executive Vice-President for the Denver Metro Area Local of the American Postal Workers Union will each have five minutes to address the membership, according to the DMAL Constitutionadn By-Laws.

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU MUST BE REGISTERED ON THE DMAL WEBSITE TO BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE ZOOM MEETING. 

Register at denverapwu.com no later than October 27, 2020.

This meeting is scheduled for October 28, 2020 at 5:00 PM.

BALLOTS FOR EVP ELECTION

Ballots for the DMAL Election for Executive Vice-President will go in the mail on October 30, 2020. 

If you spoil your ballot or never received a ballot, please contact Jackie Fleming at 303-365-1524 ext. 424, beginning November 9, 2020 and ending November 13, 2020.

IN ORDER TO REQUEST A DUPLICATE BALLOT, YOU MUST BE ABLE TO POSITIVELY IDENTIFY YOURSELF AS THE ELIGIBLE MEMBER MAKING THE REQUEST.

IN ORDER TO BE COUNTED,  YOUR BUSINESS REPLY ENVELOPE MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE ELECTION COMMITTEE BY 8:30 AM, NOVEMBER 20, 2020.  

Ballots can be mailed or dropped off at the DMAL offices at 15677 E. 17th Ave in Aurora, CO  80011.

The below DMAL members have been nominated to run for the position of Executive Vice-President for the Denver Metro Area Local of the American Postal Workers Union.  Each of these members has until the close of business (4:30 PM) on October 1, 2020 to declare whether they accept or decline their nomination.  These can be FAXed to 303-365-0096 or brought to the DMAL office at 15677 E. 17th Ave., in Aurora.  The form required is below.

Candidates running for the position of Executive Vice-President and desire to write an article for the Special Mailing, must submit their articles to the Denver Metro APWU by the close of business (4:30 PM) on Friday, October 2, 2020.  These articles can be FAXed to 303-365-0096 or brought to the office (15677 E. 17th Ave.) in person.

Nominations will be accepted for the position of Executive Vice-President for the Denver Metro Area of the American Postal Workers Union until the close of business (4:30 PM) on September 28, 2020.  All nominations must be in writing to include the name of the person nominating and the name of the person being nominated.  Nominations must be either FAXed to the DMAL office at 303-365-0096 or dropped by the DMAL office at 15677 E. 17th Ave. in Aurora, CO.

NOMINATION RULES TO BE NOMINATED

FOR EXECUTIVE VICE-PRESIDENT

SECTION 4. Nominations

(a) Any member in good standing may nominate a candidate for any office, including a self-nomination.

(b) Nominations shall be made orally at a meeting of the membership to be held at a ZOOM Meeting on September 26, 2020 and in writing.  Written nominations must be actually received at the Union office by the close of business on September 28, 2020.

(c) Nominations for each office shall not be closed until a call for further nominations has been made three (3) times by the presiding official without further nominations being made.

(d) In the event that only one member is nominated for any office, no election shall be held unless required by law, and such unopposed candidate shall be declared elected.

SECTION 8. A member shall be eligible to be nominated and to hold elective office and/or be a delegate if the member is in good standing for at least twelve (12) consecutive months prior to the time of nomination. This individual shall not be nor have been in an acting or certified supervisory position for a period of one year prior to serving as a candidate for officer or delegate.  An individual who has applied for the PASS program or its equivalent, or applied for an acting supervisor position must withdraw such application prior to serving as a candidate for officer or delegate.  He/She must not hold office in any organization other than the A.P.W.U. which represents postal employees.  To be an eligible candidate for a Craft position, the candidate must be a member of the craft (except as stated in Section 17.d).  No member shall be eligible to run for, or to hold more than one (1) elective office at any one time.

Take Office

The Election Committee has ruled:

A member may stand for election to and/or hold only one (1) elected office.  Any Executive Board member must resign their position before nominations.  If a nominee does not accept or decline a nomination during the nominating meeting, the Election Committee shall make reasonable efforts to determine the nominee’s wishes.  If a nominee fails to give specific notice to the Election Committee within 72 hours after the nominating meeting, it shall be presumed that the nominee declines all nominations.

Any DMAL member who was nominated for the position of Executive Vice-President must fill out the attached form of their intentions to run or not run for this position.  This form must be received at the DMAL office, either by FAX (303-365-0096) or in person at 15677 E. 17th Ave. in Aurora, CO, by the close of business on October 1, 2020.
