Denver Metro Area Local Retiree Chapter Meeting Minutes
May 31, 2014
President Scott Morrow called the meeting to order at 11:32 AM. Fourteen (14) members attended the meeting. Ron Gorman took the minutes. A motion to approve the March 22, 2014 minutes was passed unanimously.
Scott introduced the officers and told us that Andrew Romanoff (running for the 6th Congressional District) was due to arrive and make a short presentation. He also said that, later, he would go over changes that should/needed to be made in our Constitution & By-Laws so we could be approved for our charter and receive it at the upcoming National Convention.
Andrew Romanoff arrived and Scott immediately gave him the floor. He said that the Republican (Mike Coffman) running against him declined at least three opportunities to debate. Romanoff said that the House of Representatives was the biggest problem to get things passed. He answered a few questions, then, his Outreach Director, Pilar Chapa, handed out his envelopes.
Scott said that Lew Roman had volunteered for the Secretary/Treasurer position and asked for any other volunteers or nominations. With none coming forward, the motion to approve Lew Roman was passed unanimously.
We will need to have volunteers for the Budget Committee and Trustees once we start to receive our dues rebates.
Scott had a petition for a ballot initiative regarding the food industry labeling in Colorado.
Chapter Legislative Director Wisniewski gave a Legislative Report regarding Bill #4076, referencing end of six-day delivery and putting up more cluster boxes.
Motions were unanimously passed to endorse: Andrew Romanoff, Vic Meyer, Senator Mark Udall, Congresswoman Diane Degett and Congressman Ed Purlmutter.
The next meeting is scheduled at the DMAL Union hall on July 12, 2014 at 10:00 AM. NOTICE: Three constitutional changes will be considered and voted on at this meeting.
Scott adjourned the meeting at 13:05.
